On Academy Awards red carpet, 'Muppets' writer and star talks about Best Original Song nomination for 'Man or Muppet.'

The Muppets might not be hosting the 2012 Oscars, but they're heading into Hollywood's biggest night as presenters and nominees for Bret McKenzie's song "Man or Muppet."
One of the men responsible for the big Muppets comeback this year, Jason Segel stopped on the Academy Awards red carpet to talk to MTV News about their big night.
For the "Muppets" writer and star, Oscar night signifies the success of what he was ultimately trying to do with the film. "My whole goal in making that movie was to bring the Muppets back to the Muppets that we grew up with, and to have them here tonight is really mission accomplished," Segel said.
To the chagrin of many fans, the nomination for "Man or Muppet" did not mean a live performance for the song, something many were looking forward to. Fans cried out in rage, but Segel took it in stride. "I feel bad for the world, but personally, I can handle it," he said. "I'm honored to be here, truly."
What's next for Kermit and his felt cohorts? Segel said one of his goals with the movie was to give the Muppets some character flexibility. "I wanted to set the stage for the Muppets to do anything that they wanted, whether it be bring back the TV show or have another movie. It seems like we might have done that, which makes me really happy," he said. "They really did influence me as a young comedian. My writing partner, Nick Stoller, felt the same way, and it's just the best night ever."
