Stephen Colbert Grills Eliot Spitzer, Declares 'This Ain't Charlie Rose, Motherf**ker' (VIDEO)

It's been a rough day on TV for former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer.

The candidate for New York City comptroller was first grilled by Jake Tapper for his "incredibly reckless and ... very illegal" prostitution scandal. Then, he was asked by Stephen Colbert if forgiving voters signal the "slow decay of our moral values."

As Spitzer laughed the question off, Colbert declared, "This ain't Charlie Rose, motherf**ker!"

"Shouldn't the job of comptroller go to someone who has shown a modicum of self-comptrol?" The comedy host asked Spitzer. "Why should the people trust you?"

"The totality of a record," including his many years as New York attorney general, Spitzer suggested, make him a suitable candidate.

Spitzer also played along with Colbert in 2010 when the comedy host suggested he could be honest because Spitzer had "no public image to uphold."

Jay Leno took his jabs at Spitzer last week for being "involved in the most degrading profession of all time," but Spitzer argued then that despite past trouble, he's campaigning for this position overseeing the city's finances because he wants "to contribute through public service."
