The Need Of NCC In Schools - Education - EzineMark

One fine morning I opened my eyes with a phone call from my office and I was asked immediately to rush to Mahipalpur where a massive accident took place. I was on my way to cover the report when I saw many young people who seem probably to be teenagers, helping the victims to head on to hospitals. I tickled my curiosity and increased it. I could not stop myself from asking them who they are and where they have come from.

The answer was ?we are the members of NCC and NSS from Army School, Dhaula Kuan?. I could not ask them anything more about what it is exactly because they as they were helping the victims, it would have been highly nonsense to ask them more questions. But I was impressedseeing their work and dedication to serve the people. But my level of curiosity kept on increasing until I made a small research on it.

After I was done with my job for the day, I came back home and without taking a look on other things, I just turned my laptop on and searched about NCC and NSS.

My search result in Google said NSS is National Service Scheme. After independence Dr. S. Radhakrishnan recommended to introduce social service among the youths. Later, the then Prime Minister, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru introduced social service in the graduation level. This was got into account by all the Education Ministers of the States in their conference that was held in April, 1967 where they had suggested that the students at the university level could join the National Cadet Corps (NCC) on a charitable basis and an optional to this was a latest programme, the National Service Scheme (NSS).

This programme was introduced to build the thoughts of social welfare in the students, and also to provide service to the society without any discrimination.

NSS volunteers work hard day and night to make sure that every person in the society who is needy gets the every possible help from the members so that they can also lead a well to do life.
National Cadet Corps was formed with the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. NCC is called as the successor of University Officers Training Corps (UOTC). UOTC was established by the British government in 1942 but it never came up with fruitful results. Later, the committee headed by Pandit H. N. Kunzru suggested a cadet organization to be introduced in educational institutions at a national level.

Finally, NCC came into existence on 15th July, 1948 after it was accepted by the Governor General. NCC holds different camps such as Annual Training camp National Integration camp, Republic day camp, Para jumping camp, Thal Sainik Camp, Army Attachment camp. The members of NCC are students of Schools, Colleges and Universities who work for the country and its society on voluntary basis. They are also given military training in parades and small arms. After a thorough research on NSS and NCC, my respect for those students got raised even more. Seeing their effort I was speechless.
