RolePlayGateway?

I had a character with a broken link. If this happens to anyone else, while it's not substitute for a working character tab, you can post your character here for easy viewing while a fix for the broken character link is being investigated.

Name:Jack Stiles
Nickname:Captain Jack
Age:35
Group:Them
Sexuality:Heterosexual

Appearance:He's almost always smiling about something when he's in public. In private, his thoughts may lead him to gloomier expressions, but when he's out, he always seem to be smiling. He never grows a full beard, though occasionally has been known to go without shaving for several days, letting it grow into a full stubble. He wears work shirts and whatever else suits him at the time, though he has discovered he enjoys some of the fashions he's found in magazines and stories related to cowboys. He has made several coats for himself out of deerskin rawhide. The rawhide, being more brittle and less flexible than real leathers, wears out faster and needs to be replaced sooner but that, mixed with the fact that it's deerskin makes it that while it's still in good shape, it protects from a lot of minor pains, such as thistles, bristles and dry branches. It also adds protection, but doesn't nearly totally defend against, some more serious dangers like animal bites and small knives. But the longer he wears it, the quicker it becomes more brittle and the less it protects from.

Likes: Bourbon, hunting (more for the sport of it), cowboys, horses, hand wrapped cigars, shotguns and westerns
Dislikes:"bitchy little girls," putting friends in danger, cars, heat (anything above about 70) and hiding
Fears:being burned alive, being thrown by a horse and failing to protect anyone

Personality: He likes to never show his hand, that's why he always smiles. It's easy to always have a cocky grin than it is to always keep a straight face. He likes to drink and tries to be funny whenever he can. He spends a lot of his free time hunting, even if he never catches or kills anything. He enjoys the sport of hunting and feels it trains him for certain types of tasks he may find himself needing to perform in the future. He enjoys, when he does kill something, using anything he can from it. He's not very skilled, but he's been learning through a mix of books and trial and error to tan hide, make bows and arrows.

He enjoys being over the top and the showiness of things. He enjoys games such as poker, other forms of gambling, guessing games and of the like. He thinks himself brave, though it might just be he's either stupid or doesn't fear for his own life. He rarely shows any concern for his own mortality unless it's directly in threat of coming to an end, and even then he tries to mainly keep it to himself. He worries more about others when it comes to danger. While he prefers either having or being backup when doing something dangerous, if the choice is left up to only one person, he'd rather it be him than anyone else. Besides that, while he has a sense of right or wrong, he feels that what matters is the motive, not the means and is willing to fight dirty to do what he feels is right.

History:Jack Stiles has been a fighter as long as he can remember. When he was young, he would get into fights. When he got older, he got into more of them. It ended up he seemed like he was doing nothing but fighting, so he thought, Hey, if I end up bleeding at the end of each day, why not live off that blood? Fighting for a living actually ended up with him fighting less but fighting harder. He took the spare time to learn more about hunting and gathering in wild. One day, he found a hold of abandoned books and magazines. Almost all of the books were westerns and the magazines were about the same thing. He loved the look of the cowboys and when he read the stories, he began to love the lifestyle and the way the gritty cowboys acted. The stories talked about leather and how it was made from cowhide, but none of them went into the details of how to make it. He ruined a lot of deer hide before he figured out the right formula to make rawhide from deer. It's not a true leather, but it works for him.

As he continued to fight and do other things of a violent nature, he began to be noticed as a possible asset. He began to work as security officer for the village of them and worked his way in the trust of the chief to the position of right hand. Some questioned the decision, Stiles being more of a fighter than a tactician or leader. He personally thinks he could organize and lead if he needed to, but the opportunity hadn't come until the village was found.
