SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A local golf course will soon look like something out of the?Jetsons?cartoon.? The Windy Knoll Golf Club will be the proud owners of two BW1 hover golf carts.? Named after professional golfer Bubba Watson's initials, it's your typical hovercraft.? Pete Duffey said his excited about it's arrival.
"We didn't believe it at first. We thought it was an April Fools joke, so we quickly got on the phone and were able to locate the manufacturer of these hover crafts," said Duffey.
The Springfield golf course will be the first in the nation to own the hover carts and managing director Pete Duffey said they will debut July 27 at the club's Hover Bash.
"We see a revitalization in this county across the board and we see this as Windy Knoll Golf Club to be a part of that," said Duffey.
Duffey said unlike the typical golf cart, this new hovercraft will be able to drive over water and the riders will not feel any bumps.? Gary Wilson frequently visits the club and is excited to see one of these things up close and personal.
"I think it's great. Springfield has a great history if innovation in its past. ?Anything we can bring into today is all the better for us," said Wilson.
Duffey said the hovercrafts cost about $58,000 a piece and will cost $230 to rent for a round versus paying $37 for a typical golf cart.
