Trial of NC men suspected in terror plot continues (AP)

NEW BERN, N.C. ? Opening arguments could come soon in the eastern North Carolina trial of three men accused of plotting acts of terrorism.

Jury selection in the case began Monday in New Bern. U.S. District Court Judge Louise Flanagan told prospective jurors the case could take five weeks.

Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, Ziyad Yaghi and Hysen Sherifi face multiple felony charges related to allegations they conspired to attack the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va., and targets overseas. They have pleaded not guilty.

A fourth defendant, Anes Subasic, has waived his right to an attorney and is representing himself. He will be tried following the conclusion of proceedings against the other three.

Three other men have pleaded guilty in the case and are cooperating with prosecutors.
