In today?s cycling news, transfers, extensions and referrals continue apace; teams start to announce rosters for Vuelta and more?
Transfers and renewals:
- Jimmy Caspar has signed a one year contract with the AG2R La Mondiale squad with the chance for a one year extension through 2013. The 33 year old Frenchman has captured six victories since the beginning of the season, including the overall victory at the?Grand Prix de Denain, two stages of the?Mayenne, a?stage of the Tour de Picardie and a?stage of the Tour de l?Ain. The team also announced that Ben Gastauer has extended for two years.
- On the basis of his strong performance at the Tour de France, Rob Ruijgh has received a two year extension with the Vacansoleil squad. Ruijgh was the highest placing Dutchman at 21st place. The team also extended the contract of?Wout Poels The 23-year-old was third in the last Tour of Poland.
- Green-jersey contender Jos? Joaqu?n Rojas and ?ngel Madrazo have each extended with Spanish outfit Movistar.?Rojas, the reigning Spanish national champion who gave Mark Cavendish a run for the green jersey at this year?s Tour de France, will stay with Movistar through the 2013 season, the team reported Thursday.?Madrazo, 23, is considering one of the top up-and-coming Spanish talents and will also stay with Movistar for two more seasons.
- After seven years with the Euskaltel -Euskadi team, Spanish cyclist Koldo Fernandez is said to be making a move to the Garmin-Cerv?lo squad for 2012. Fernandez finished third in the Spanish National Championships on the road.
- Valerio Piva, in recent years a sports director with the HTC-Highroad team, will take over responsibility for Belgian press reports for the Katusha team.
- HTC-Highroad senior director Rolf Aldag has been using his contacts to help his riders find new contracts for 2012.?He is confident that most have already found their new teams and remaining are in the process of signing.??My wife thinks I?m totally crazy because she thinks I should be out looking for offers for myself but I think that if the ship goes down then the captain probably shouldn?t jump first,? he told Cycling News.
Vuelta rosters:
- Omega Pharma ? Lotto has announced their team for the Vuelta. The squad will be Jan?Bakelants, Francis De Greef, Gert Dockx, Adam?Hansen, Oliver?Kaisen, Sebastian?Lang, Vincente?Reynes, Jurgen?Van de Walle and Jurgen?Van den Broeck.
