I?ll admit it- I watched Punky Brewster religiously as a kid- I wanted to be punky, I wore my hair in mismatched piggy tails, and never left home without my trusty beat up jean jacket that I asked my mom to sew patches on. I was a TOTAL Punky Breewster wanna be. And being that Soleil Moon Frye is around mt age- I?ve always been interested in following her pursuits be it her passion for green living, kids? issues and her family. I truly love that she puts a happy, well-adjusted face on motherhood, and that being the primary caregiver for your kids, does not turn you into a Valley of the Dolls, pill popping unfulfilled individual- in fact quite the contrary. For some moms, being a stay at home parent is complete and utter fulfillment. So of course when I found out about her latest enedavor, the release of her book HAPPY CHAOS: From Punky to Parenting and My Perfectly Imperfect Adventures in Between (which has been a long time passion project for her) I couldn?t wait to get my hands on one? and trust me- you won?t be dissapointed!!

HAPPY CHAOS: From Punky to Parenting and My Perfectly Imperfect Adventures in Between which will be in stores on August 23rd and the idea that ?happy chaos? is a sign of a family operating at its best. That being a mom is meesy, complicated, chaotic, there is no manual- but once you relze you can and should embrace the chaos and even revel it in ? well parenthood and all it?s little treasures ( namely your kids) will become that much more rewarding? and this is why I ADORE Soleil!!
Of course I needed to talk to her too, just to get a bit of insight about the woman behind the book, her passion and how she?s managed to stay so sane after growing up in the Hollywood spotlight!
The Staten Island Family: What made you decide to put motherhood before celebrity- and do you feel like that was the right choice for you?
Soleil Moon Frye: I?ve always wanted to be a super hands-on mom and I?ve been really blessed to be able to stay home with the kids and do my work.? I love spending time with my little ones and I find myself constantly trying to balance between quality time with the kids and my career.
The Staten island Family: How have you stayed so grounded in an industry which eats its young child stars alive?
Soleil Moon Frye: I feel like there are more positive stories than negative ones but so often it is easier to focus on the tragic ones.? Many of my friends that grew up in the business turned into fantastic adults with amazing families.? I was always very lucky to have a great family and support system around me at all times.? My mother made sure that we were always kids first.
The Staten Island Family: If your kids expressed an interest in Hollywood would you encourage it
Soleil Moon Frye: If my kids are anything like me, I won?t have any say in the matter.
The Staten Island Family: What is best advice you got about being a mom?
Soleil Moon Frye: When I was having an imperfect parenting day a few weeks ago and being hard on myself, my girlfriend said that one of the best pieces of advice that she had received was to always be a confident parent because confident parents create confident children.
The Staten Island Family: Do you have any plans to return to the big or small screen anytime soon?
Soleil Moon Frye: I love performing and acting, it is part of my DNA but I also love having this precious time with my little ones.
The Staten Island Family: What does writing this book mean to you and what do you hope parents walk away with after reading it?
Soleil Moon Frye: This book was truly inspired by wanting to share with others and as a mom who didn?t know where to turn, I wanted to create that manual that I never had but desperately needed.
